Hyde County Schools Forced To Cut Positions

A budget cut is forcing one school district in the east to layoff nine teachers this school year and four of them will have to be dismissed this semester.

Hyde County Schools Superintendent Randolph Latimore says this is an unfortunate circumstance that the district has been trying to avoid for years. He says after years of making budget adjustments in other areas, the school board had no other choice but to layoff employees.

Four high school employees , four elementary employees and one employee from the central office will be laid off, while he says that there are two open positions that will not be filled.

Latimore has worked for the Hyde School District for five-years, and says this isn't the first time the school's budget has been tight, but he says it is the first time in five-years that employees have had to be dismissed because of it.

The Hyde County Schools receive funding from local, state and federal government funds....all of which Latimore says have been cut in the last five- years.
