Hundreds Receive Free Eye Exams In New Bern

On Sunday hundreds attended a free Vision Health Clinic held at Garber United Methodist church in New Bern.

The event was part of the Faith In Action Weekend. Hundreds of adults and children were given free eye exams. Also, vouchers for eyeglasses were given to those who qualified.

To qualify for vouchers the applicants must have a social security number, must not have vision insurance, and their income must be no more than 200 percent above the poverty level.

People who did not qualify for a voucher could still have their eyes checked and get a prescription.

Many doctors in New Bern dedicated their time. Cathy Doty said, "We should all give back when we can and providing vision care is something I love to do and just personally I think it's wonderful to get together with all these volunteers friends who all share a common purpose and that's serving others."

Greg, it is a free program offered. There is no charge to tax payers. The doctors actually team up with Garber to be able to do is service, so just be happy there still are nice people in this world.

It is my hope for you greg that you never need a helping hand. Not everyone is as fortunate.

Terri I have and continue to help people that need help. My problem is helping people that are not trying. Unless you live in another state you know that's the case in NC.

Guess what Greg, this program had no impact on you what so ever. No tax payer dollars were used. It was through the generosity of the local eye doctors and Garber UMC that this program was able to be offered. Before opening your mouth and inserting your foot - try becoming informed!!
