A few severe thunderstorm watches have been issued for eastern Carolina. A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Hertford, Nash, Edgecombe, Gates, Halifax, Northampton and Wilson until 10:00pm. The biggest threats with the storms this evening will be strong gusty winds and small hail. Heavy rainfall will accompany all storms that develop this evening.

The stagnant weather pattern will continue across eastern Carolina through the weekend. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s with heat indices hitting the middle 90s.

Scattered storms will develop during the afternoon Friday producing gusty winds, heavy downpours, frequent lightning and hailstones up to 1" in diameter. The strongest storms will likely come between 4 and 9 pm.

A cold front will stall just to our west over the weekend, leaving our area in a deep and moist tropical flow of air. Most locations will receive numerous showers between Friday and early next week. Some of the rain will be locally heavy. Flash flooding will be possible at times through the weekend. Be careful on the roadways..."Turn Around, Don't Drown".
