Driver Charged After Hog Truck Flips In Greene County

A Goldsboro Milling Company hog truck overturned in Greene County this morning, dumping its cargo and detouring traffic.

The wreck happened in front of 4049 Highway 258 near Highway 123, near Lizzie. The call was reported around 6:30 a.m.

The driver, Danny Merritt of Beulaville, wasn't injured. Troopers say they expect to cite him with failing to maintain lane control.

Troopers say 160 hogs in the truck were saved, while 24 were killed or had to be put down.

Well lets just be thankful no one was killed or injured, and God will look after the lost pigs. How can people judge when they were not there, those that might have seen the accident might can comment, but no one else knows anything, other than what they were told. Give the driver a break, this could happen to anyone, the man was out early in the morning trying to make a living and unless you have bright lights shining in your eyes, blinding you , you dont have a clue what its like, its like a flash and the spots wont go away where you can focus. My prayers are with everyone

No matter how high a driver is sitting in a truck, if the oncoming vehicle has their high beam lights on, or if the headlights are not properly aligned the driver WILL BE momentarily blinded by the lights.

In regards to a comment from someone at the scene, how does a truck driver (sits up pretty high), get blinded by car headlights?

Keep eating all of those pigs. Pigs are helping to make me wealthy when your arteries plug up from the harmful effects of pork.

To all the slaughter house workers, thanks for MURDERING those pigs. I love pork and would be lost without my sausage biscuits and pork chops in the morning (and ribs at night). You people are the best murderers on the planet and you know most people appreciate the job you do. I consider you the 007 of the meat production business. Licensed To Kill, Pigs!

To Alpha female: It is against the law for packing plants to process pigs that are down for any reason. You can thank people such as the one who commented about animals being "murdered" for that. Common sense fails often times when people apply emotion instead of reason. Any pig that can not walk has to be destroyed, no matter the reason.

Not on their way to being 'killed'. On their way to being murdered.

@TarHell & Sun and all the other comments that say this isn't funny and we shouldn't make jokes. The truck driver wasn't hurt and you do realize the pigs were on their way to being killed...right? Lighen up people!

All jokes aside... why weren't the disabled pigs given away to be cooked instead of put down? I would have eaten a handicap hog.

They really need to do something on that road. People are insane. We drive it everyday from Farmville to Goldsboro and I can't tell you how many accidents we are nearly in and see.
