A highway that's been closed for nearly six months is open again with a new bridge.
Highway 99 south of Belhaven has been closed since June because of construction of a new bridge over the Pungo Creek. That closure created an 11 mile detour for residents of the area.
The bridge opened Thursday night to traffic.
Earlier this month a construction worker was killed at the site when he was run over by a dump truck that was backing up.
