High Speed Chase Spans Two Counties

A 21 year old is under arrest after lawmen say he led them on a chase in two counties overnight. Lawmen say the chase ended whtn the fleeing vehicle hit a deer.

John Millaway faces several charges after the chase that started on Carolina Ave. in Washington around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Captain Kenneth Watson with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. Watson says Millaway changed direction, ran a stop sign and sped south on Highway 17. The deputy started to chase the vehicle.

Captain Watson says Millaway continued on Highway 17 in Craven County, where he threw something out the window of his vehicle. The chase then returned to Beaufort County on the dirt portion of Haw Branch Rd. It ended when Millaway hit a deer on Gray Rd. At that point, Watson says Millaway was taken into custody without incident.

Millaway was charged with Felony Flee to Elude Arrest, DWI, Speeding in a Work Zone, Aggressive Driving to Endanger, Left of Center, and Failure to Burn Two Headlamps. He was held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $5,300 secured bond.
