High School Principal Suspended

The principal at Topsail High School in Pender County has been suspended.

Reports say Marcus Skipper was suspended with pay last week, but the school system is not revealing why. WITN checked with criminal records, and Skipper is not facing any charges.

Meanwhile, Carson Watford is still listed as the principal at Bertie High School. He was suspended with pay last month, but officials will not say why.

A principal is in effect an employee of the tax paying folks of his/her district who are entitled to be made aware of the circumstances of the investigation. Suspension can only occur as a result of criminal actions or misconduct. Either way, you are entitled to know.

Please cite the NC General Statute, NC Supreme Court or US Supreme Court case that supports your assumption requiring one to forgo protections.

Ok, something is in the air and inquiring minds wants to know. Why are all these principals either quitting or being suspended. What I think and I know noone realy cares what I think but I am going to tell you anyway. My analaysis is that the system is requesting and asking more out of these administrators than they are willing to adhere to so they either resign or are suspended until they can be replaced. A lot of pressure is being asked of the teachers these days. They also want them to be baby sitters instead of instructors. The public needs to know what is going on so that parents can step in to help resolve the matter. Then again maybe some of the parents are the problem. IJS....Anyway someway, somehow concerned citizens (really concerned citizens not just trouble makers) needs to know. It is becoming an epidemic

That's some people's problem; you think you're suppose to know everything and you're not. Get over yourself!

Yeah something fishy is going on here.. umm.. thinking it has something to do with something.. that something.. is not something they think we should know about.. but something.. I give up.. You need a real investigative reporter WITN... with many of the stories you cover.. alot of info is missing... an explaination of why would suffice.. like if it against policy or law or whatever..

Okay, what the heck is going on? This is the third principal suspended in two months, is there some kind of scam going on? This is the problem I have with the school board, they do everything they can to keep everything all hush-hush, when we all have a right to know what's going on, especially the parents that have children going to that school.

Legally, you do not have the right to know what is going on in an investigation involving personnel records. Those records, be it your records, my records or this person's records, are protected under the law during the investigation. Simply because one is a teacher or principal, they do not give up such rights or protections.

Your kids go to Wal Mart. If someone gets fired there, you are not notified as to why unless you or your child is directly involved. The same applies to any employee.
