Hay Fire Caught On Camera

Some scary moments for drivers along Highway 258 north of Snow Hill this afternoon -- a trailer pulling hay caught fire.

James Grady sent in the picture as he was driving past the fire, which happen around 3:15 p.m. near Ham Farms.

About a half dozen round bales of hay were lost by the fire.

Snow Hill Fire Chief Linwood Bunn says van belonged to H&F Equipment. He says the rear wheel of the trailer rubbed against the fender, causing the hay to catch fire.

The back part of the van also caught fire, but fortunately no one was injured.

The original story did not mention the tire/fender friction. I figured it was a cigarette butt, too.

Did you read the article? The fire chief said that the tire rubbing against the fender created heat that caused the fire.
