Democrat Congressman G. K. Butterfield was in Havelock Wednesday delivering a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The $100,000 grant and $1.7 million low interest long term loan will fund the construction of the new city hall.
Originally the city was going to renovate the existing building but determined a new building will be more cost effective in the future.
Assistant city manager David Harvell says the $1.7 million dollar loan is about a $110,000 per year principal interest pay back.
Harvell says they are still in the planning stages of the building and don't have a date set yet to break ground.
