Havelock Gets Money For New City Hall

Democrat Congressman G. K. Butterfield was in Havelock Wednesday delivering a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The $100,000 grant and $1.7 million low interest long term loan will fund the construction of the new city hall.

Originally the city was going to renovate the existing building but determined a new building will be more cost effective in the future.

Assistant city manager David Harvell says the $1.7 million dollar loan is about a $110,000 per year principal interest pay back.

Harvell says they are still in the planning stages of the building and don't have a date set yet to break ground.

Let me tell ya how this stuff works. Somewhere in Havelock is a overworked underpaid staff member, who did all the leg work, filled out all the paperwork and made all the necessary phone calls to get this grant approved. THEN the politicians show up with the check and a few cameramen.

Butternut must think he's done a good thing, huh? The FACT is he gave away tax money! Hard earned tax dollars to Havelock that came from (will come from) other NC tax payers. There is NO such thing as a free lunch - SOMEBODY always pays.
