The cleanup continues at a Havelock carpet store that a car crashed into, and the woman police say was behind the wheel is due in court to face her DWI charge.
Sarah Kronenberg, 28, is scheduled to appear in court in Craven County Thursday, according to the court calendar.
Kronenberg was not in jail as of early Thursday morning, according to online jail records, which indicated she was released by a court order.
Kronenberg is charged with DWI after crashing into Mr. Carpet in Havelock around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Records show Kronenberg has been convicted of DWI in the past and is currently facing a separate DWI charge from another incident.
Police say the woman driving the SUV faces numerous charges including DWI.
Employees at Mr. Carpet on U.S. 70 said the speeding S.U.V. struck the side loading dock of their business. One employee told us they normally unload from that dock, but this morning they just happened to do it in the front part of the building.
Witnesses say police had their weapons drawn when they approached her vehicle.
Police say the chase began around 9:30 a.m. after they say the woman, who was talking on a cell phone, cut-off an unmarked police car on Belltown Road. The officer turned around and chased the woman through a neighborhood, and while she ran stop signs, police say the chase didn't exceed 45 miles per hour.
The officer lost sight of the SUV, and a few minutes later other officers spotted it on U.S. 70 driving around 70 miles per hour. Police say the speed limit on that section is between 40 and 55 miles per hour.
Officers pursued her and say the SUV driver tried to make a left turn, went into the median and took out a road sign. The vehicle then went through a ditch and struck the business.
Sarah Kronenberg was taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center and police have charged her with DWI, failure to stop for blue light and siren, damage to property, and resist obstruct and delay a law enforcement officer.
Police say additional charges may be pending.
Court records show the 28-year-old woman has a previous DWI conviction, as well as another pending DWI.
