ECU's Lincoln Riley Safe... For Now

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy would like to hire a new offensive coordinator who could continue to run Dana Holgorsen's prolific attack. A man fitting that profile, who is also rumored as a candidate, is ECU offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley.

Gundy said Friday that his "first choice" for Holgorsen's replacement would be someone who could make a smooth transition with the offense that leads the nation in total offense, and ranks second in passing and third in scoring.

Holgorsen will be leaving to become the offensive coordinator and head-coach-in-waiting at West Virginia after the 16th-ranked Cowboys (10-2) play Arizona (7-5) in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29.

Gundy says he likely won't hire a new offensive coordinator until the first week of January.

Lincoln wont be going anywhere. He'll be a future head coach for Texas Tech within 5 years I expect.

KC: The best offense is a strong Defense. Go Pirates!

Another reason for Lincoln is staying...Tuberville was not too popular with the Texas Tech fans. He will be gone in the next few years and Lincoln could be the head coach of his alma mater! And coach Ruff will be happy to see him go.

Lincoln sounded sincere from his 12/9 interview.

No worries...Lincoln will probably stick for couple more years since he has a great relationship with coach Ruff. If he really leaves, Ruff may use Donnie as the OC since Donnie had done it before and by then he should learn the Leach offense pretty well. Beefing up the defense is the top priority right now.
