Greenville Police Tie More Violence To Gang Activity

As the investigation into several gang-related shootings continues in Greenville, police say they've been able to tie more cases together.

In addition to seven shootings in the span of nine days, the latest last Saturday, police say a June 18th shooting was also connected to recent gang activity.

Travis Pittman was shot in the 1600 block of West 3rd street around 4:00 a.m. Police say they're confident they know who the suspects are in these cases, but say the victims have not been too helpful.

Chief William Anderson says members of rival gangs have been behind these shootings. He says there have been new developments in the cases, but nothing the department is ready to release.

this is truly incredible... innocent people paying the price of poor parenthood.. people in prison for more than 15 years shouldn't be allowed out.. give anyone involved in gang activity shock therapy untill they cant walk.. then they will regret anything they even have a notion about doing anything else... others will see the vegetable and how much he went through.. crime will go down if the consequences are tough... im tired of people sentenced to life but plea and only get 15 years... fix this world one thug at a time... shock therapy and public hangings... put them in their place..

Start in schools and the neighborhood businesses and shut this down. Do not serve them if dressed innappropriate or acting a fool and take NO disrespect from them! When they draw out their words when disappointed maaaaannnnn shhhooooooot, just ignore them and stay objective!! Either say please leave my business or please report to choice or the principal. Punish appropriate and tarin them the way their mamas and lack of daddies are not!!!

Any home found to be harboring these urban terrorists (i.e., anyone on the gang hitlist or associated with gangs) will be evicted. You harbor them and raise them then we come after you! No more allowing mothers of these crazy babies to do nothing!! Maybe then they will stop dressing their little 3-4 year olds in "gang" wear early on and will try to conform to society!!

It all begins with discipline or a lack thereof and that responsibility rests soley with the parent(s). If the parent(s) abdicates this responsibility and authorities or teachers try to control these young thugs they are immediately labeled "racist" by the NAACP, a group that justifies it existence by perpetrating the myth that these hoodlums are victims of a system that's designed to repress them.

I'm not so sure about that. The "THUGS" have to take responsibility. I grew up without any parental guidance and I've never been in trouble. I think it's a decision made by the kids. They're trying to be "gangsta" or something.

there are also those raised in good homes who get in trouble nd you and them are the exceptions to the rule! Parental guidance needed...end of statement!! We have to make a decision to go down one direction and be leaders and quit tis academic flip-flopping!!

two points. until you make criminals very very afraid of going to jail. nothing will never change. they should be afraid of the judge, the jury and the prision. at this point in time they are absolutely not. second point when any mayor or city council lets 5 percent of the population hold the rest of the city hostage nearly, they are a failure. do whatever it takes even if you make hard choices, that is what you were elected to do.

The only thing the Prayer Walk accomplished was to encourage the thugs to move to the Eastern part of Greenville for the day, to avoid the press cameras and police presence on the west side. They just went over to Summit St. and continued their usual shenanigans... Gee thanks--the Students of ECU really appreciate your efforts...

I say we start hanging and stoning in public again, THEN see what happens.

If they could just get rid of each other and no one innocent get hurts, sounds like a good plan. Just line them all up in a field somewhere and they can shoot all they want. :)

Who's ignorant here? You obviously dont own any mirrors. In no way, shape, or form was that comment categorizing people that go to church. If you have abosultely nothing valid to contribute to these postings (which all your comments have proven) stay offline. We as a community need to be supporting our local LEO's if we want to see this garbage stopped.

Some people call these people "Wanna Be Gang Members". I would fear them more than the gang members I saw in LAX. There, they have a lot of opportunities to gain their "Street Cred". Here, it is a lot harder. Innocent people will get hurt, as this continues. Time to really put the hammer down in Greenville. Knock off this "G-Vegas" trash, to advertise the City. It plays to their vision of the Wild West. If not, many potential students will be lost @ ECU, the economic engine of this city, as parents refuse to let their children live in "Gang-Ville".

These "Greenville, NC gangs" would never hang with the ones in Oakland, CA.

No matter what lowlifes the local thugs are. The Oakland ones are real trash and worthless human beings. But then again look at who has them, "raises" them and what they come from.

What about the innocents that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? letting gangs "fight it out" is the stupidest thing you could possibly do.

I laugh as the family members of these dead thugs cry and mourn their deaths. You raised them! It all comes home to roost! Quit being bums and you won't raise bums. What is the most common thing amongst these gangsters? I would say, but the moderator wouldn't post it. Why? Because we deny reality in America.
