Greenville Man Jailed After Claiming He Was Robbed

A man who told police he was robbed at gunpoint ended up behind bars.

Kristopher Jackson, 23, of Greenville called police around 5:40 a.m. Wednesday to say he'd been robbed by someone he knew as "Rocko." Jackson told Greenville Police officer M.T. Knight that he had gotten a call from a friend, asking for a ride from downtown Greenville to Sterling Pointe Apartments. Jackson told the officer that he had known this friend for approximately 3 years, but that he did not know what the friend's real name was. As the interview with the officer continued, Jackson reported that when he got to Sterling Pointe with his friend, a man named "Rocko" climbed into the backseat of Jackson's car, pointed a silver handgun at Jackson, and stole his money.

Police say Jackson could not tell the officer what the phone number was of his friend who asked for the ride, or what happened to the friend once they got to Sterling Pointe.

Police say there were "several inconsistent statements" with Jackson's story. Officer Knight searched Jackson's records and found he is wanted for 2 counts of failure to appear in court on drug charges in Guilford County. Jackson was arrested on those warrants.

The report from Greenville Police does not say whether they think the entire armed robbery report was bogus, but Jackson does not face a charge for filing a false report.
