Greenville City Council Acts On Task Force Items

The Greenville City Council will soon put some of the recommendations it received from the city's Crime Task Force into action.

City Councilman Calvin Mercer says the council approved requesting that the ABC Board allow Greenville police officers help enforce ABC laws.

Mercer says the ABC Board has rejected this request in the past, but Greenville Police Chief William Anderson strongly supports it.

The council also approved asking the state legislature to levy a tax or fee on the sale of alchohol, with the proceeds going to offsetting law enforcement costs.

Since when does the police chief have to ask for permission to uphold NC State statutes? Is there some sort of good=ole boy understanding here? This is absolutely unacceptable, that the police chief has to get the ABC boards permission to enforce a few laws, the downtown is OUT OF CONTROL. Like O'bama time to get these folks out of office....

Usually the local Dept of Social Services office is the go-to point for disaster food stamps: 209 east main street, plymouth.

Extra taxes won't stop or prevent crime. It's just an excuse to get more money. They can't effectively manage what they have and they have no incentive to manage it - all they have to do is ask for a tax increase! Stop the waste!

Where is the rest of the article? This is called reporting the news? What are the recommendations? When will they be put into action? How about alittle more effort on your reporting WITN. This is pathetic.

Imagine that, Calvin pushing something that will result in more taxes. The money tree will eventually lose all its leaves Calvin; the world can't support all your pet projects and more taxes at the same time.

Other than performing inspections on ABC outlets, the GPD can enforce any violation of the law in NCGS 18B already. Looking at the news everyday, it seems they have enough to do stopping the robberies, home invasions, and homicides without worrying about ABC laws.

Great more taxes....And the ABC Board has to protect their jobs. Otherwise they will show how useless they are and they can be replaced.
