Greene Co. Schools Employee Charged With Embezzlement

Greene County lawmen arrested an employee from the county's school system for allegedly stealing money from the cash-strapped county.

Angela Potter, 43, of Kinston, faces a felony charge of embezzlement. According to the Kinston Free Press, the woman embezzled nearly $2,700 in checks and cash from Greene County Schools.

Before the theft, Potter worked as a benefits specialist for the school system. The incident allegedly took place May 27, and Potter was suspended without pay from June 1-30.

Court records show Potter's next court appearance is scheduled for Friday Sept. 23.

Greene County was one of the areas hardest hit by the deadly April 16 tornadoes. Some of the county's schools were severely damaged and face millions of dollars in cleanup costs.

When did it become a job requirement for State Employees to be criminals, thugs and thieves? It seems every week we hear about another State employee who is caught embezzling, raping, stealing, or assaulting. We all know that most of the State Government in the General Assembly are criminals of one type or another, but when did this trickle down to the local level?

Wow people come on get real. Why do so many of you want to blame Obama for something Angie did. He did not tell her to take any money. She made that decision on her on. I know her and I think she is a nice person, but nice people do crazy things to. If she is guilty she need to be punished. If she had not got caught when she did it could have been more.Stealing is stealing there is no other word for it.

I am a former teacher for Greene Coutny Schools. As an employee, you deal with people such as Mrs. Potter for personnel issues. If she deals with benefits, she most likely stole directly from her fellow employees. To me, this is far worse than stealing from "the system." Stealing is stealing. That is true. But taking directly from your fellow co-workers is a whole other thing....in my opinion.

Grammar* You might want to check your own conventions before hurling vitriol at others for violating grammatical norms.

If she is a "great person" she should know right from wrong. Many people are struggling in this economy for many different reasons. It doesn't give everyone the right to take from their employer or anyone else. If she is found innocent in court, fine but something had to be going on or there would not have been charges. But think what would happen if everyone that was having financial trouble started stealing from their employer. There must be other ways to cope that to take something that doesn't belong to you!

Don't Blame Obama He din't tell her to Steal the Money. She needs to be held accountable for what she did and that is stealing from the County/State Tax Payer. So what your saying is that it's Ok.I've been out of work for 4 yrs. now due to a Back problem can't get any help from My Govt'Does that give me the right to Steal?
