Last week, Governor Beverly Perdue discussed football with ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard and Athletics Director Terry Holland. Wednesday, the Governor announced she is asking for help to get East Carolina University into the Big East.
Perdue announced today that she has been calling governors in Big East states urging them to help ECU gain acceptance to their conference.
East Carolina, currently a member of Conference USA, has publicly stated the university is in favor of being a member of a conference with an automatic qualifier for football's coveted Bowl Championship Series. Conference USA's annual football champion currently does not qualify for a BCS Bowl.
Two Big East members, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, recently announced they will leave the conference for membership to the Atlantic Coast Conference.
