GlenCare Fined $16K For Hep B Outbreak That Killed Six

The owners of a Mount Olive assisted living center have been fined after six residents died last year from Hepatitis B.

The Department of Health and Human Services levied the $16,000 fine against GlenCare of Mount Olive on Wednesday. The information was released Friday by the state after they got notification the facility received the letter.

Last week a state review committee unanimously recommended the fine against GlenCare.

A total of eight residents contracted Hepatitis B at the facility and state regulators said the likely blame for the outbreak was the reuse of glucometer and lancing devices without proper disinfecting and cleaning.

Last fall the state cited the facility with five violations. The proposed fine will be sent to the Health & Human Services Adult Care Section chief who will make a final determination of how much the fine will be.

A state report said GlenCare staff only cleaned the devices with alcohol swabs when it "looked like there was something on them."

The company has 30 days to appeal the fine, or pay it within 60 days.

If news re43leases are to be believed, the Hepatitus was passed thru the testing devises and also thru unprotected sex. I can't condone the slack work ethics of some people who won't clean things, but I happen to know that the Mr Kornegay, that is a lawyer, does not operate the facility, but only owns the building. People need to get their facts straight before shooting of their mouths about other people.

I have Hepatitis and I am an engineer who works for the largest herpes dating and support site STDslove. com. I have to tell you a secret, you can choose not to believe me. But the truth is that this site has more than 1,880,000 members and about 80% members are good looking in my estimation. Unfortunately, STD rates soar worldwide and most people with STDs don't even know that they have them. So do use a condom to protect yourself!!!! The government should grant more money for STD education to lower the rates of STD transmission.

So, this is all these lives are worth to the state? I certainly hope there are private lawsuits pending to serve punitive damages against any health care facility that is this negligent. Since i am disabled, i hope i never find myself residing in a facility that appears to care so little for its residents.
