Some of you are probably excited with the chance for snow Friday into Saturday, and the possibility of even more winter weather next week. Others are not, and that includes transportation workers.
Pitt County DOT workers say the snow is putting a strain on their equipment, materials, and budget. Jeff Cabanass with the DOT says, "We've got enough to handle normal, average amount of snowfall, but when you go above average it puts more pressure on equipment and materials."
While salt supplies are dwindling, crews were still our pre-treating roads with a salt-brine solution.
Cabanass says snow removal costs shouldn't impact the DOT budget in Pitt County this year, but could have an effect the following year.
