Instead of casting light, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will be basking in the light of a full moon when visitors are invited to take one of two evening tours of the North Carolina landmark.
The National Park Service is offering full moon tours of the lighthouse Wednesday evening. Two tours will be given, one at 8:30 p.m. and a second at 9:30 p.m. Each tour is limited to 30 people.
Climbers will navigate the 257 stairs to the top using handheld flashlights since there are no lights inside the lighthouse. Participants have to bring their own flashlights, and they must be able to climb the stairs on their own.
If the program is canceled due to weather, ticket holders may exchange their tickets the following morning for a day tour.
