Three Weekend Shootings Kill One, Wound Two Others

Three different shootings this weekend in Kinston left one man dead, two others wounded and a home and vehicles damaged.

The latest shooting happened early Sunday morning at the 258 Sports Bar on Highway 258 south, There they found Demetrius Jones with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The 20-year-old died later at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.

On Friday night Neil Moore II was shot in the face in the 600 block of North Independence Street. The 17-year-old was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. A second victim was also shot as well as a home on North Independence Street.

A mother and a two-month old baby were inside that home when bullets came flying through her bedroom wall and front door.

"I heard a long bang and thought it was a car back firing, then I heard several other bangs after and realized it was gunshots,” says April Brown.

She says her first reaction was to check on her baby who was sleeping at the time. Brown says, "I ran towards the back towards my baby, made sure he was okay. I then pulled open the front door and hear somebody call “help me, help me,” so I called 911.

Then on Saturday, two vehicles were struck by gunfire early this morning in the parking area across from the Cellar Club on East Gordon Street. One car had bullet holes in the right passenger door, but no one was injured in that shooting.

Police say so far no arrests have been made in any of the shootings.
