Four Vote Difference Maintained After Sheriff Recount

Election officials say a recount in a close sheriff's race has brought no change in the outcome.

On election night there was a five vote difference between incumbent Washington County Sheriff James Ross and challenger Greg Hassell. Once provisional ballots were counted the race narrowed to just four votes.

Washington County Elections Director Dora Bell says in a recount conducted Monday they came up with the same four vote difference. But Hassell says the number of voters who signed the election book and number of voters the machine do not match up. Bell says that's not true, saying the numbers do match up.

To: LEO. Ya need to get ya facts straight. There is no conspiracy with the Raleigh people. No one has even mentioned that, other than LEO and Ross supporters. Raleigh's question is: Why were the ballots not properly locked in their correct boxes? & Where are the missing ballots? The only conspiracy going on is, local LEO's like yourself trying to mislead the public. (Are you blind to what's going on, have you got to lie to keep your cozy little job). I was at the recount and saw first hand what was going on.. The only other LEO's that were there beside Hassell, were Ross and Williams stopping in from time to time.. So instead of spreading rumors, ya might want to know the facts.. Even when Ross saw that the ballots were all mixed up and misplaced. He shook his head is disgust and walked out..

To: LEO: Hassell filed a request for a new election because because of irregularities in ballot tallies and problems with electronic voting machines. You better hope he doesn't get it. Because if he were to get the new election and win I bet he would clean house. I'm sure he as seen your and the others true color. You all stabbed him in the back and he's still only down 4 votes.. LOOK OUT!

Preacherman, The balots were not run through the same machines, they were run through the same type machine. Two different machines, the same results and the folks from Raleigh say that it was done right and the count stands, so I guess they are involved in the cover up also. It must be one heck of a conspiracy to have folks from Plymouth all the way to Raleigh involved with it. I am a Christian and have to put some faith in the system and people that we have in place. It ain't perfect, but neither are we and it is the best system in the world. A hand count will bring the same results IF the person doing the counting follows the same guidlines the machines have to programmed for, after all the machines are designed by the board of election to follow state guidlines. If the machines are not reliable then every election in the state needs to be recounted by hand so that we all would have the right numbers. It takes a big man to admit defeat

The decision has been made! Get over it! Greg has tried many times to get the sheriff seat, and has never gotten it. He has been on both side of the parties and still can not win. What do that tell you?

Leo, If you run the same ballots through the same machines what do you expect? Of course, you get the same vote totals. If the machine beeps or throws out a ballot what does the elections board workers do? They mash a button to accept it. They wouldn't let anyone check any ballot regardless of how many times the machine beeped or threw the ballot out. They just mashed the "accept" button. Only a hand to eye recount will prove the true and actual results of the election. All that Dora has done and her board follows her blindly is to say there is no mistakes. She has yet to prove beyond a shadow of doubt that she is correct and the vote total correct too. It's a pity that all of these Christians quickly forget the words of their Lord and Savior about keeping away from even the "appearance of evil". This whole mess could easily be solved. All that is required is openness and truth.

You obviously do not know the election process works or you would know why he didn't/couldn't run. Anyway, I am not going to entertain you stupidity on a website, you can surely call the Sheriff's dept in Wash Co and voice your concerns, I am sure any of them would be happy to give you a response. If you can do it better, give it a shot. Don't hate because they are in charge and all you can do is post Anonymously on the internet. Give Brian a call and voice your concerns, I am sure he would respond, and you would get a very professional and educated response at that!

Glad I moved from that place.. Washington co continues to become an ever more backward and ignorant place to live... Everyone with any education or ability is fleeing. The voter continue to put official in place that don't need to be in such places.. Eventually they will all be consumed with their ignorance and crime. The whole place is not far from being a ghetto... Congrts Washington co voter..

To Little Sister with her “four more years of greatness” delusional comment. If what we have in the Sheriff’s Department is “greatness”, I can’t possibly imagine what it would be like if the Sheriff’s Department was “ordinary”, “mediocre”, or “sorry”. Also, if your brother brings such talent and experience to the Sheriff’s Department why didn’t he run for sheriff? Is he really happy being second best to Smiley?

So are you standing up to these so called crooked cops and officials???? Or just posting on this website to talk???? Obviously the people of Wash co have spoken again and believe Ross is the best to run the Sheriff's office. No matter how many times you count the votes, its gonna reveal the same thing. If Wash Co is so crooked, move somewhere else. The best man and the best crew one that race!!! GO Sheriff ROSS!! BTW, Hardison is not Sheriff so if you want to bad talk him, its because he fired your butt or arrested you. Washington Co is in the best hands again for four more years.
