Four Vote Difference Maintained After Sheriff Recount

Election officials say a recount in a close sheriff's race has brought no change in the outcome.

On election night there was a five vote difference between incumbent Washington County Sheriff James Ross and challenger Greg Hassell. Once provisional ballots were counted the race narrowed to just four votes.

Washington County Elections Director Dora Bell says in a recount conducted Monday they came up with the same four vote difference. But Hassell says the number of voters who signed the election book and number of voters the machine do not match up. Bell says that's not true, saying the numbers do match up.
