Lawmen in Onslow County say they've solved up to 70 vehicle break-ins with the arrest of four suspects. The Sheriff's office says the theft ring plagued Swansboro, Hubert, and Piney Green with dozens of break-ins, dating back to December.
Lawmen say they got their break in the case last month when the suspects were allegedly breaking into a car in Swanboro near the home of a Naval Investigative Agent. He confronted the suspects and called police. With a description from the agent, police found and arrested John Leach, 20, of Hubert and John Hawkins, Jr., 18, of Jacksonville.
Two other suspects got away but were later identified as Raymond Bischoff, Jr., 17, and James Eggleston, 19, both of Hubert.
All four face 14 counts of felony conspiracy, breaking/entering motor vehicle, possessing stolen goods/property, nine counts of misdemeanor larceny, and five counts of felony larceny. Hawkins faces additional charges for possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver (1 count), manufacture marijuana (1 Count) and maintaining dwelling/vehicle for controlled substance (1 Count).
Lawmen say this is only part of the crime ring and they expect more arrests to follow.
