Former Police Chief To Run For Congress

Retired New Bern Police chief, Frank Palombo, has decided on a new career.

The former chief of police says he will formally announce his bid for the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday, according to the New Bern Sun Journal.

Palombo will be challenging longtime Congressman Walter B. Jones in the Republican primary in May 2012.

In June, Palombo retired after nearly 14 years as New Bern's police chief.

I just have to say that this man is an idiotic fool if he thinks he has a chance at beating out Walter Jones. Walter Jones is in that 5 % category of GOOD N.C. POLITICIANS. He just better try to run for sheriff of Craven County if he wants to do something different.

Come on Chief, dont waste your time. What do you have to offer that Rep Jones don't have? Congressman Jones has served his constiguents well, so what can you do better? How about help stop the crime in New Bern?

Why is someone that is not Tea Party not Republican ? It's this ideological extremism that has deadlocked Congress from taking meaningful action when action is called for more than ever. "No taxes" is too narrow a position to solve our country's problems. Hopefully Mr.Palumbo will not fall into this extremist trap.

With all the support that veterans receive from Walter Jones, I will never vote against him. He is truly one politician who will stand up for those who have put their lives on the line. Sorry Mr. Palombo, nothing personal.

It will be a tough job running against Mr. Jones who has done such an outstanding job and has gained a lot of respect in Washington. That relates to influence. I guess people can guage the Chief on whether crime has increased in New Bern on his watch. Is he a Tea Party candidate or a RINO?

No, he is known as a wimp in Washington. People around here think he hung the moon because he has his daddy's name. All he does is go around to churches with a Bible under his arm and fool people. After all these years in DC he has NO leadership positions. About all he ever did was rename french fries (and even that was repealed).

You obviously are a yellow dog democrat. A very bitter and mean spirited one that does not have the courage to use his name. Typical of those who don't know what they spitting out.

I was really disappointed when Walter Jones came out in favor of "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" (Amnesty). I don't know much about Mr. Palombo, but Jones has opened a door to cause me to investigate others.
