Former Officers Guilty In Maury Prison Beating

Three former officers have pleaded guilty to felony charges in the 2008 beating of an inmate at a Greene County correctional institute and have been fined and given suspended sentences.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported the former Maury Correctional Institution staffers admitted conspiring in the beating of David G. Richardson while he was handcuffed and his ankles were shackled.

Capt. Gregory Beck and Sgt. Terry Bell pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit assault. They were fined $500.

Officer Brian Bostick pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon. He has been fined $2,500.

Each man could have received up to seven years in prison.

Inmates are housed in prison which is a cash cow for the state to few staff per inmates . whenever an investagation is being conducted at a prison the institution calls in staff on their days off to fully staff the prison but the truth is these prisons are run with a skeliton staff sometimes one officer per 4 blocks or 1 pod or 1 unit and is responseable for maintaining order Whenever a situation like this beating happens like this the sect of corrections Alvin Keller gets rid of the asst supt or supt by "reasigning " them why not in this case ALVIN !!!!!

All I have to say is those correctional officers would do a better job than me. I would have no patience being involved in law enforcement or the department of corrections working with animals like them.

Not condoning assault at all, but for those of you that have not worked as a CO- you have no idea. You only heard the part of the story that is allowed to be reported. I would hope most of you adults would already know not to think you received "all" of the information from a news story.

He assaulted (2) Correction Officers, and then beat the inmate they were putting back in his cell while this inmate could not defend himself. He was in shackles. The staff members in this case gave his the same beating while he was in shackles that he gave that other inmate. Again he also assaulted two staff members. WITN this is the truth. Why don't you post this. This is fact.

As a former CO at Eastern Crrectional i can tell you thattes have SOOOOOOO much freedom in prison as crazy as that sounds. It is hard to think that these guys have committed such terrible crimes as they sit and eat a hot meal and sleep with pillows under their heads and workout on their gym equipment or while they are watching tv, or while they are playing cards......while they are pretty much enjoying themselves. No I do not believe it is right to beat them, that is like getting a caged animal ready for a fight. However, I do notice that the whole story isn't printed. What prompted these men to do this? Working in a prison is scary and you are not guaranteed to walk out of there everyday. I would really like to see what happened before the beating took place.

Amen! They are in the WRONG FIELD! I work in a hospital, I sometimes get disrespected..feelings hurt but do that give me the right to withhold pain meds or slap the patient?? Please..let them get away with it and that will be sending out the wrong message, smh..

If only we knew the WHOLE story....... Correctional officers as well as any officer of the law have a dangerous job. Remember we are talking about a CLOSE CUSTODY prison. I am quite sure inmate Richardson has done more than his share of beatdowns and deserved to be put in place. Inmates have more rights in prison than they deserve. They do not deserve AC or 3 hot meals a day. They did a crime and should not have a life of luxury while doing their time in Prison. Wake up America. Inmates live better than some of our Elderly!

poor disgusted.... until you walk in my shoes, don't judge. yes you work in a hospital and they call you names. but that is on their own free will. i work in corrections and they are there for a crime. not "i got a fever and i don't feel good". these are convicts. i bet you would be the frist to complain if it was your family member they assalted. so till you really know what you are talking about.... keepit to your self.

I challenge anyone to work 1 day in this prison, and feel for the inmate. the inmates located at maury are the worst of the worst and the officers hands are tied. sad thing is the state will provide this inmate with an attorney, at your cost.

So tell why come the sytem is acknowledging the fcat that these officer conspired to do this crime, meaning the officers at any givinh time could have stop beating this man,and not to mention that he was already in shackles and handcuffs so he wasnt fighting back UMMMMM...makes u wonder and for the one who replied they deserve beatings in prison dont believe everything u see on television cause people do use their power of authority to advantage and u just ignorant for saying that

I totally agree with Shay Shay. They should have at least served time because it is a crime what they did. He had on handcuffs and leg restraints so what was he going to do with anyone? No the officer emotions got the best of them and they gave into these emotions
