Former Greenville Escapee Faces New Charges

A man who briefly eluded police by walking out of a police interrogation room three years ago, is in trouble with the law again.

Justin Barnes, 23 and his apparent brother, 20-year-old Kentrayne Barnes, both of Paris Ave. in Greenville, were booked in the Pitt County Detention Center on drug charges Thursday. The two are charged with
possession with intent to manufacture, sell and distribute drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Barnes is no stranger to the law. He was arrested in a high-profile case in October 2008. Lawmen say he sneaked out of a police interrogation room while under arrest for armed robbery. He was caught at a local motel two days later. Barnes spent time in prison for the armed robbery.

Both suspects have bonds set at $20,000.

300 years ago, they were in chains. Now (300 years later) we're so worried about "equal rights" that we give animals like this second, third & fourth chances. Armed robbery? And 2-3 years later he's back on the streets? ...I'm sure it's only because he's black.

Not his first and I am sure it will not be his last. We need a real 3 strikes and you are out. What has this career crimial cost the tax papers in trying and convicting and then housing him in prison. 3 stikes and you get the chair. It would either make them think twice or at the very least it would stop them after their 3rd offense. Think about it.

The article states that he spent time in prison for armed robbery. Apparently, not enough time. Let me guess, he'll get probation for the new charges. At this point we can't blame the criminals for being criminals. The justice system has made it too rewarding.

Armed robbery and escape and back out on the street in less than 3 1/2 years? Something is wrong with the system. At least he was not using a gun this time.
