A former Carteret County deputy sheriff has been sentenced to prison time for skimming drug money.
In federal court in New Bern Friday, Frank Galizia received 18 months in prison and three years supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $84,880 in restitution.
Galizia was chief deputy for the Carteret County Sheriff's Office. He and former deputy Boyce Floyd pleaded guilty to the scheme in July 2010. Floyd still awaits his sentencing.
Three others, including the former Carteret County Sheriff Ralph Thomas, have pleaded guilty. Thomas is serving a 14 month prison sentence and was ordered to repay $84,000. The two other deputies were also sentenced to prison time.
Galizia and Floyd made unsuccessful bids for sheriff in 2006.
