The first round if the state high school football playoffs gets underway tonight (Nov. 12). Here is a look at the game the Football Friday sports team will highlight.
Northside at Plymouth:
The Plymouth Vikings take a 10-1 record into tonight's home game against 3-7 Northside. plymouth is also ranked #5 in the state and will look to knockoff the #8 seed.
J.H. Rose at New Bern:
A rematch of last Friday night's regular season finale at Rose. the Rampants (6-4) hung tough with the unbeaten Bears throughout the first half and trailed only 13-7 at the break but eventually lost 31-7. New Bern is ranked #7 in the class 4-A state rankings.
Columbia at Southside:
Southside is back in post season play with a 7-3 record but the #4 seed will have their hands full with (6-3) Columbia who heads into the playoffs with a #5 seed.
West Brunswick at South Central:
South Central finished as the runner-up in the Coastal Conference behind Havelock and heads into the post season as the #2 seed in the Class 3-AAA East playoffs. West Brunswick makes the long trip to Winterville as a #7 seed with a 5-5 record.
Trask at Ayden-Grifton:
The Chargers had a seven game winning streak snapped last week when they lost to Goldsboro. A.G. heads into post season play with an 8-2 record and #3 seed while Trask is 4-6 on the season having lost six of the last seven games.
Nash Central at West Carteret:
Nash Central is hoping to pull off an upset on the road. The Bulldogs are 5-6 overall and will face a Patriots team with an 8-3 record having won three straight games.
Currituck at Havelock:
The Coastal Conference Champions will host a 3-8 team hoping for a miracle. Currituck has given up an average of 44.6 points per game over their eight losses of the season.
Pasquotank at Tarboro:
The defending state champion Vikings will look to take their first step toward another title as they host Pasquotank. Tarboro is 11-0 on the season and the top seed in the East. The Panthers are 5-6 having lost three of their last four games.
Perquimans at Riverside:
Riverside heads into the playoffs with an impressive 9-2 record with their only losses this season coming against Plymouth (10-1) and Camden Co. (4-7). The Pirates are hoping to see the same team that lost to Camden County, a team Perquimans beat 44-36 two weeks ago.
Kinston at Richlands:
A battle of class 2-AA heavyweights! Kinston is 9-2 with a #6 seed. The Vikings certainly have a chip on their shoulders as they have to travel to Richlands to take on the #3 seed with an 8-3 record.
Dixon at Southwest Onslow:
The (4-6) Bulldogs have a tough matchup in the first round as they travel to Soutwest. The Stallions are averaging 38.7 points per game and head into the post season with a 10-1 record.
Northampton-East at Creswell:
After starting the season with an 0-2 record, the Tigers have been on the prowl. Creswell has reeled off nine consecutive wins. Northampton-East struggled to win only three game during the regular season but head into the playoffs on a two game winning streak and fresh off last weeks impressive 55-20 win over Southeast Halifax.
Washington at West Brunswick:
Washington limps into the post season with a 5-6 record and riding a two game slide. South Brunswick (9-2) will look to flex their muscles at home and rebound from last week regular season ending loss to Whiteville in the rear view mirror.
