Fmr. Town Manager Pleads No Contest In Sewage Case

The former town manager of Maysville pleaded no contest to falsifying records and tampering with sewage discharge samples at the town's sewage treatment plant.

In May Billy Ray Waddell was arrested by the SBI on 22 criminal charges. He was given a consolidated 60-day suspended sentence and ordered to pay nearly $1,000 in court costs and fines.

The 61-year-old retired a few days after his arrest.

Now, if regulators can just find a way to document non point source discharge of organics. The wild bear poop, deer do do, bird droppings... Never mind the runoff from spray fields of all of the pig farms in NC. The four legged variety.

100 years ago, the good people of Maysville would be ripping open their pillows and melting down some tar for this guy, and would have run him out of town on a rail. Now he gets a slap on the wrist, writes a check, and goes about his merry way as an "upstanding member of society".

We don't need government, I'm sure sewage will just regulate itself through the free market economy. Seriously, things like this put thousands of people at risk for third-world diseases. What kind of backwoods place do we live in?
