Fish Kill Spotted In Neuse River

Residents along one area of the Neuse River may notice a strong odor due to a recent fish kill.

Rick Dove with the Coastal Carolina Riverwatch says that the kill is on the south shore of the Neuse River between Flanners Beach and Slocum Creek.

Dove says that the mass kill of menhaden appears to be the result of low dissolved oxygen and adds that the area of the kill is defined by the state as impaired due to nutrient pollution.

Carolina Pines along the Neuse River saw a kill as well just over a month ago on July 10th.
