Craven County Man Charged With Setting His Own Home On Fire

A Craven County man is charged with setting his own home on fire.

41-year-old Harold Smith is charged with arson after the home he lived in on 611 Broad Creek Road in Craven County caught fire Sunday night just before 7:00 p.m.

Officials say Smith and another resident were able to get out of the home safely. The home is a total loss.

Officials say a Craven County home is a total loss after a fire broke out just before 7 p.m. Sunday.

Craven County Assistant Fire Marshal Ira Whitford says the fire happened at 611 Broad Creek Rd.

Whitford says the two residents who live at the home were able to get out safely. He says the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The Red Cross is assisting one of the victims of that fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
