Fire Rips Through Home

A single-family home in Martin County was completely destroyed in a fire early Sunday morning and fire officials say the blaze began in the couple’s daughter’s bedroom.

Oak City, Hamilton, and Speed fire departments responded to the blaze. The home is located on Cannon Road in Oak City. According to fire officials a man and his wife woke up to the sound of a loud noise coming from their daughter’s bedroom, when they opened the door they saw huge flames. Luckily their daughter was not home at the time. The couple got out safely.

Fire officials were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. to fight the blaze. They say the home is a total loss. No one was injured fighting the fire.

The family is staying with family nearby. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
