Fire Evacuees Relieved After Returning Home

Residents forced out of their homes in Onslow County Thursday because of the wildfire were allowed to return Friday.

People living on Dixon Road just off of Highway 210 were among those told to evacuate as fire crept closer to their homes.

Leonard and Lucia Szymanik spent the night in a Red Cross shelter set up at North Topsail Baptist Church. Friday morning they were allowed back in their home as they could still see crews flying over and fighting the blaze.

The Szymanik's say they were relieved to come home and see their home of 30 years untouched by the fire.
