Fire has closed the Wright Brothers National Memorial Visitor Center.
The National Park Service says a mid-morning fire in an air handling unit motor was extinguished and no injuries were reported. All staff and park visitors were evacuated from the building as the Kill Devil Hills and Colington fire departments responded.
The Park Service says the building will require cleanup and repair as well as assessing the condition of cultural artifacts. The building is expected to reopen in several days.
The rest of the park, including the Wright Brothers Pavilion, remains open.
