Speakers Support UHS Management of BCMC At Public Hearing

Its a process that has had one county in eastern Carolina up in arms over the past several months. The issue of who will manage Beaufort County Medical Center.

Beaufort County Commissioners held the final public hearing Wednesday night at Beaufort Community College before the long awaited vote to accept or reject University Health Systems as the new management of BCMC in Washington.

Everyone who spoke at the meeting was in favor of the UHS proposal which will allow a $10 million buyout at the end of the 30-year, $30 million lease. One resident and a former hospital chief financial officer in Maine thinks it should be an easy decision.

"Quality health care and increasing the quality health care and the access to it will make this area more attractive to retirees to come to Beaufort County," said a former hospital CFO, David Wheeler.

I will be glad to get this behind us. We all know that UHS will be what is best for us regardless of what" Hoodlums" think.

It seems to me the original subject was political domination. Bob made it more than that when he claimed to have the power, but not the inclination, to dominate with force because of his and his pal's military training. Yes, it was a poor choice of words. It was also an example of poorly placed bravado. I think the lack of respect between the factions in BC goes well beyond the hospital issue. All this could have been avoided with real communication and real respect. Too bad for those of us living here.

Hello, GRI - What poster at 08:47 said was "and, no, I have no dreams of domination of BC (although my band of brothers and I could surely pull . . .)" He said that he had NO DREAM OF DOMINATION. I read that to mean he had no interest in any force, muscle, threats or otherwise. Just my opinion. I don't necessarily agree with his choice of words, but I sure didn't see any whacko saying them.

Was there ever a police report made out on the harassment or threats?

Say Whut? poster @ 08:47 said, "although my band of brothers and I could surely pull enough force together to do so (dominate BC) if we chose due to our on the job training in the Middle East!" omg That must be one of those whackos that threatened the CEOs of CHS and UHP and harassed the BC Commissioners. lol

You forgot the unanimous support for UHS by the Board of the Beaufort County Farm Bureau that services over 6000 citizens in Beaufort County! So it is 10 not 9. I happily correct you and I'm sure you happily accept the correction!
