Father Charged With Child Abuse

A Beaufort man is charged with child abuse after police say he left his two small children home alone this past weekend.

Brandon Adkins was arrested Saturday, according to Beaufort police.

Police say Adkins' wife came home around noon Saturday and had to crawl through a window to get inside. She found her children, ages 2 years old and five months old, alone in the apartment. The wife said she discovered the place is disarray, a television had been thrown near the baby's crib and a bottle of bleach had been poured all around the living room.

Police were told the wife was gone for about 30 minutes.

The 22-year-old Adkins received a $2000 secured bond and has a March 22nd court date.

I think the father should go to jail and let the prison population teach him a lesson or two. The mother should be investigated to verify her story just for the safety of the children. DSS, at least in Duplin County, rarely does anything about situations like this unless it ends up in the newspaper. Thank God these children were found and are okay because many parents have been reported to DSS and nothing is ever done. Some people just don't deserve children!!

Sorry, Smokin Sect., I have to disagree with you. A LOT can happen in 30 minutes if a 2 year old is unsupervised! Anybody that has ever babysat one will tell you that; not to mention a 5 month old that could have choked or been hurt by the 2 year old unintentionally. How could anybody be so irresponsible?

Alicia, The mother was only gone for 30 min. I doubt the children were in any danger of perishing. Get a grip. The mother didn't do anything wrong except leave her children with someone who can't be trusted with children.

People, the main thing is the welfare of these children! A TV was thrown near the crib and bleach was poured all over the floor! This is endangering little lives not to mention if they had gone anymore time without food or water they could have perished! This needs investigating for sure and both parents need to be investigated! This is lives we are talking about and I am sick and tired of people defending the parents while the children are being murdered at every avenue!

I think you guys are being way to hard on this mother. It's different in the cases where the woman moves a pedophile or known abuser in with her and the kids, but this was the children's father. Maybe him & her had a spat before she left and then he took it out on the kids, who knows. But we have no reason at this point to condemn the mother in my opinion.

Eventhough she knows he's jerk, they are HIS KIDS and she shouldn't have to worry about him harming HIS KIDS even if they don't get along again they are HIS KIDS too and he is their "FATHER" and a "FATHER" should be trusted with them!! Just saying
