A man and his son are home from the hospital Tuesday, after a tornado lifted their truck off the ground while they were inside.
Thomas Selby says he was driving his son Antwan back to their home in Belhaven on Monday. That's when they saw the dark clouds coming closer, noticing the winds had picked up. Thomas tried to throw the truck in reverse to turn around, but says it was too late.
8-year-old Antwan tells WITN he saw the tornado ripping pieces off a house, just before the twister lifted up the truck.
With their truck being tossed more than 20 feet in the air, the two know they could have been hurt much worse.
Thomas, a deacon at a local church, has bumps and bruises on his elbow, knee and back.
Antwan has scrapes on his neck and fingers. He also had headaches Monday night, which led to the doctors keeping him overnight at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
