Farmers: We Need The Rain, Not The Storm

Some farmers in the east say they could use the rain from Hurricane Irene, but say flooding and heavy winds would be devastating to their crops.

At Briley's Farm in Pitt County farmers recently planted corn in preparation for their upcoming season.

During the fall they expect thousands to come to their events at the corn maze, so if heavy wind and flooding damaged or destroyed the corn, that could mean they would lose thousands of dollars.

For now workers say they are keeping their eyes to the skies and hoping Irene doesn't cause too much damage.

Other Pitt County farmers we spoke with say they have actually decided to harvest some of their crops early because they don't want to take a chance of losing them.
