Familiar Face For the Pitt School Board

A former Greenville City Council member has been appointed to the Pitt County Board of Education. Mildred Council was unanimously appointed to the 1-A seat.

The school board was looking to fill the seat after the death of school board member Matthew Ward in January.

Council served for many years on the Greenville City Council until she was defeated in 2009 by Kandie Smith.

Council will be sworn in at a later meeting and will serve until December 2014.

I think that the only answere is private schools or home schooling. With the leadership at all levels in the state we are struggling with cost and performance. I think if there was not one student in the public schools, the cost would not go down. The cost is obviously to support the overhead not the principals and students. One county in NC just submitted their yearly budget for over one BILLION dollars. Some countries do not have that kind of budget. And we are still in nearly last place in the nation. Is it money, leadership or location that is the problem.

I see he has you fooled. Yes he had done alot but what has he done lately - nothing but allow Emory to hire castaways from other systemes and poor principals.

Too many Jesse Jackson wantobe's in Greenville and Pitt County. Just be honest, show character and do the right thing for everybody not just your favorite group. That is how things need to be run. Fair is not popular always, but fair is the right thing to do.

Can the first issue she tackles be getting Sadie Saulter closed down. It would be nice to take my child to a safe area.

Simple - Council is who Love wanted so the rest went along with it. Another one added to the list of making our BOE the joke of the East.

There is an upside to having Mildred on the BOE. Just think about the entertainment value of those televised meetings. You never know what she will say but you know she will put her foot in her mouth. It's kind of like watching NASCAR, boring until someone crashes and burns!

If this is the best choice why did not the BOE not go back to the drawing board? Why was someone else in the community not asked to apply? Maybe the BOE wanted her. May you all ride with her on the informatin highway.

Just kidding, This was reported incorrectly. Oh no they were not kidding. How can someone in a minority house district that is a minority lose and then be put on the school board?
