Much needed help is headed to one local area hit hard by the tornadoes this past weekend. Onslow county officials say the Federal Emergency Management Agency will set up an office there soon and they're urging residents to start getting ready.
Officials say residents can start the registration process online or over the phone, and they should gather important documents first.
The EMS Division Chief Beth Himes says pictures of damage, insurance documents and any reimbursement information should be gathered before contacting FEMA. Himes also says documentation of what you own and pictures of the home before and after the storm would also be helpful. Any reciepts of any expenditures for hotel rooms or supplies used to clean up should also be brought in.
"I'm not exactly sure what FEMA will reimburse to the citizen but its good to have access to documentation, have all of their documentation with them, so they can go through with the FEMA representatives." said Himes.
