FEMA Center Opens, Others Prepare To Close

A state-run insurance assistance center for Hurricane Irene victims will open on Hatteras Island Wednesday.

The center is located at the Salvo Fire Department.

Meanwhile, people in two counties who have not filed with FEMA yet only have a few days left to get their paperwork together. FEMA centers in Greenville and in the Pamlico County town of Hobucken are closing at 6 p.m. Friday.

FEMA's centers provide people on staff to help hurricane victims through the process of applying for federal aid. The toll-free phone number for anyone with questions is 1-800-621-3362.
