EMERALD ISLE (AP) -- The Carteret County beach town of Emerald Isle plans to put in special docks for those who use kayaks and paddle boards.
The Jacksonville Daily News reports the town is responding to increased interest in both the activities.
The town is seeking a North Carolina Public Beach and Coastal Waterfront Access grant to pay for 75 percent of the $30,000 project.
Plans call for putting docks in three locations on Bogue Sound for those participating in the sports.
The docks are designed to make it easy for a kayak to slide into the water and to make it easy to launch paddleboards.
The town envisions aluminum gangways to provide access to the docks.
