A helicopter crew from the Elizabeth City Coast Guard station rescued an Air National Guard pilot when his jet went down off the Virginia coast after a mid-air collision.
The MH-60 crew responded around 10:30 p.m. Thursday to the distress signal coming from an ejection seat of the F-16C Falcon. Around 12:30 a.m. the pilot was hoisted into the helicopter and is in good condition.
The D.C. Air National Guard says the two F-16C's where on a routine training mission off the coast of Chincoteague when they collided. The other pilot was able to return to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
