Bond has been set at $50,000 for an elderly man charged in a domestic incident. A condition of Bowen's bond is that he have no contact with his wife.
Williamston police arrested 88-year-old James Bowen and charged him with domestic assault, assault by strangulation, and kidnapping after they were called out to a home on the 1500 block of West Main Street Saturday morning.
When officers arrived they say they saw the victim, Bowen's wife, trying to get out of the front window. James Bowen came out of the home after about an hour.
Police say the victim was treated and released at the hospital.
Bowen's next court date is April 6th.

According to Williamston police around 9:00 a.m. they were called out to a home on 1501 W. Main St. in reference to a domestic assault in progress.
When officers arrived they saw the victim trying to get out of the front window. The victim was then transported to Martin General Hospital.
Officers were informed that Bowen was still inside the residence and had access to firearms. Officers were unable to make contact with Bowen initially. Other agencies, including the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, responded to the scene to assist.
Officers say a perimeter was established and officers continued to attempt to make contact with Bowen. After approximately an hour of attempting to get in touch with Bowen, contact was made and Bowen came out of the residence without incident.
Bowen is being held in jail without bond on a 48-hour domestic hold. His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday March 28, 2011.
Police say the victim was treated and released at the hospital. They say the investigation is ongoing and wouldn't release any more details.
