An elderly Lenoir County woman drowned after being found in a pond near her house.
Alva Waldie died at Lenoir Memorial Hospital a short time later. It happened just before 6:00 p.m. Thursday on Buddy Williams Road outside of Kinston.
Deputies say the 84-year-old woman apparently went down to feed her fish and was found by family members a short time later in the pond. Family and a neighbor attempted to revive the woman until emergency personnel arrived.
Waldie's death has been listed as a drowning.
