Elderly Driver Knocked Off ATV Dies From Injuries

A elderly man who was critically injured in an accident five days ago has died.

The Highway Patrol says 80-year-old James Rogerson passed away Sunday at Vidant Medical Center.

The crash happened around 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night on Wharton Station Road.

Rogerson was on an ATV, and troopers say a pickup truck swerved to avoid hitting the 4-wheeler and then it was struck head-on by another vehicle.

Rogerson was thrown off the ATV, which landed in a ditch.

Troopers say no charges will be brought in the accident.

The Highway Patrol says just after 7:00 p.m. Wednesday an elderly man on an ATV was hit by a car and knocked of the vehicle right in front of his home in Washington in Beaufort County.

Troopers say a white pickup truck swerved off Wharton Station Road to avoid hitting the ATV, and the 80-year-old ATV driver was then hit head-on by a red car. The ATV driver was thrown off the 4-wheeler, and the ATV ended up in a ditch. He was taken to Vidant Beaufort Hospital. His name and condition have not been released.

The driver of the truck and car are OK, and they will not be charged. Troopers say the ATV driver could be charged.
