Edenton Makes Forbes Prettiest Town List

The town in the East with the nickname "The South's Prettiest Small Town" is getting some confirmation on that claim.

Forbes Magazine recently named Edenton in Chowan County to its list of America's Prettiest Towns. Of the 11 towns on the list, Edenton is the only one in the Southeast.

The magazine cites Edenton's historic architecture, location on the Edenton Bay and its charm.

Totally agree with Hey Hey Hey. The "townies" are just plan rude. I moved here in 2005 thinking this was a nice town, all it is is pretty.

Edenton may be pretty outside, but most of the people that run it are nasty. Don't expect the mayor of Edenton to speak to you if you are walking down the street. All you see is a nose up in the air. And unfortunately, it's a lot more. For example, go to the water/tax office and see if anyone even acknowledge you are even there. Don't interupt them while they are talking to each other. They have better thing to talk about besides work. I could go on and on, but it would not do any good. Cause the uppidy class does not acknowledge the middle or lower class. And they never will......

I do think of Edenton as a nice looking town, but come on Forbes. It's obvious they have overlooked Manteo. I can't think of a non-beach town that looks as nice as Manteo and Calabash in this whole state. Heck, I'd say Calabash is just a bit nicer than my own hometown Manteo. I was impressed with what I saw last summer (Calabash that is) when we spent one week down in Myrtle Beach (20-25 minutes from Calabash).

The South's Prettiest Small Town comes from an article in Southern Living Magazine a number of years ago. The Forbes article only supports it. "Anonymous" people have their own agenda. Then some folks just feel the need to run down everything anyone says. I came here from Louisiana and adopted Edenton as my hometown over 32 years ago after a couple of tours in the Navy. You won't be here long before you are invited to church or join a community service organization unless you are some kind of anti-social sociopath.

I am sure it has its nice areas like all towns but the times I have been there it looked old and run down. There are many, many other small towns in the south that are way prettier. If it has the nickname the souths prettiest small town it is because the people there decided to call their own town that, not because it really is. There are way prettier small towns in the central and western part of the state as well as a bunch of them in SC and GA.

I lived in Edenton for a year and a half in an efficiency apartment when I first moved down here from Virginia. I found the town to be VERY friendly. Yes, it is a bit clickish, BUT, what small town isn't? Walk down the street and folks smile and say "Hi" and are more than willing to talk if the situation presents itself. Heck, even the kids speak to you which I found amazing. Back in Tidewater they simply steal the tires off of your car or mug you! I eventually purchased a home in Hertford only because I could not find a home the size and the price I wanted in Edenton. Some day I hope to move back to Edenton again. Like any place you move to, you've got to get out and meet the people and make friends.

Edenton is beautiful. However the people seem to be very clickish and snobby. Wouldn't want to live there.
