Boyfriend Charged In Sunday Morning Apartment Fire

A fire this weekend that damaged two units of a Greenville apartment complex was intentionally set.

Police now have charged the boyfriend of one of the victims with starting that fire.

James Davis of Wilson is charged with one felony count of assault by strangulation and 2nd degree arson after police arrested him for an apartment fire over the weekend.

The fire at College Towne Row Apartments on Evans Street broke out just before 5:00 a.m. Sunday.

According to a Greenville police arrest report alcohol was involved between Davis, his girlfriend and another man inside the apartment before fire crews were called. Everyone did get out safely, but police say damage is estimated at $170,000.

Davis is now in jail under a $76,000 bond.

I'm actually good friends and grew up with the man who started the fire. It's sad.. definitely a victim of his schizophrenia. He's a great kid with a good heart who would never purposely hurt anyone, in his right frame of mind. Always welcomed my house to him.. it's sad to see him made out to be the monster I know he isn't. I'm glad that the woman made it out okay. Doing what I can to see if I can help..

I am just wondering why the man that caught the guy is not mentioned here.... He was working and stopped in the middle of the road to help. He chased this guy all the way to Sheetz where HE not the police caught him and held him until the police arrived.... I do not know why he hasn't been mentioned for his act of help in this matter..

The accused is a schizophrenic. Those around him claim to have "seen this coming" and "seen him unraveling" for two weeks before this happened and did nothing to get help for him before he had such a huge breakdown.

If he was schizophrenic then he wouldnt have lit the fire in the first place, he would have been scared to even think about lighting it. Time to do your research.

Then that could work in his favor. It's not been said exactly how the fire was started. Time to not be condescending.

The arsonist should be made to pay all damages to the owner of the apartment. He should also be charged with attempted murder. Alcohol is NOT an excuse!

Did anyone else notice that the bond that was set was less than the amount of the damages?
