EMT Worker Assault While Responding To A Call

An EMT worker, responding to a call for help, is instead assaulted and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Major Kenneth Watson with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says James Rosene, who works for Pinetown EMS , responded to 161 Five Points Farm Lane for an injured person call around 7pm, Christmas Eve.

Rosene arrived in his personal vehicle and was first on the scene.

As he provided medical assistance to the injured person and waited for the EMS crew to arrive, Watson says, the family became upset with Rosene's service and started hitting and kicking him.

Once EMS arrived they had to transport Rosene to the hospital instead and another ambulance had to come to help the person in the original call.

Deputies arrested Bobby Covey Sr. and his son, Bobby Covey Jr. for Assault To Physically Injure A EMT worker and Resisting A Public Officer.

Covey Sr. received additional charges of two counts of Communicating Threats and two counts of Assault On A Government Official once Deputies were called to the scene.

Both were placed under a $11,000 bond, but bonded out the same day. The father and son have a December 29th courtdate.

Rosene was treated and released.
