ECU Women's Golf Honored For Team GPA

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The East Carolina women’s golf team was one of 25 teams recognized Friday by the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) for having a collective team GPA of 3.658, which ranked 18th nationally. It is the second-time in school history the Pirates garnered a top-25 ranking following the 2007-08 year when they sported a 3.531 GPA ranking 21st.

Lee University has been honored as the recipient of the 2010-2011 NGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award. This award recognizes the women’s collegiate golf program with the highest collective average team GPA, whichincludes all of the team’s student-athletes for the 10-11 season. Lee’s six team members had an average GPA of 3.864.

“I’m real proud of what this team accomplished both in the classroom and on the golf course,” said head coach Kevin Williams. “This is the second time in the last four years East Carolina has been among the best in the classroom and it is a great honor for this senior class. It is a tremendous honor and a testament to the focus and determination that our team has on its academics.”

Earlier this month senior Colleen Estes, junior Julia Strandberg and freshmen Faith Hardison and Fanny Wolte were named to the 2010-11 NCAA Division I All-American Scholar Team by the NGCA.

The NGCA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
