GREENVILLE, N.C. --- A record 208 East Carolina student-athletes have earned recognition on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll during the 2010-11 academic year, Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced today. It marks the first time that ECU has had over 200 student-athletes achieve Honor Roll status. Student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.
Four Pirate teams placed over 80 percent of their student-athletes on the list with an additional three teams having over 70 percent of their student-athletes represented. The women's golf team had seven of its eight members (.875) recognized and 11 of 13 volleyball student-athletes (.846) maintained a 3.0 GPA. The softball team had 14 of its 17 student-athletes (.823) named to the Honor Roll, while the men's tennis team placed eight of its 10 members on the list. The women's soccer team, men's golf and women's cross country each placed over 70 percent of its rosters on the Honor Roll.
The Pirate football team had the most student-athletes on the list with 28, followed by the women's soccer team with 24 (of 32).
Rice placed the highest number of student-athletes on the honor roll, producing 220 members. UCF followed closely with 219, while the Pirates ranked third on the list.
Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better also receive the Commissioner's Academic Honor Medal. Those winners will be released tomorrow.
